TRON – Evolution: Battle Grids

I was the Art Director on this title from concept to completion.

Pre production started in early 2009 at which time the games style was being developed specifically for the Wii. Disney wanted a unique look and feel for the Wii market and we produced numerous sketches and rendered concepts. I began the process by assembling an art style guide full of reference and art guidelines for creating a game for a younger consumer audience.

Guiding the look and feel of such an important title has been a huge accomplishment for me.

The game was released on December 7, 2010

Marketing Art

This gallery contains screens shots I captured of the game used for marketing and promotion. There are also stills taken from the in game cinematics I directed. These shots were created for final visual targets and print promotional material.

Since Battle Grids was a unique timeline in the Tron universe we had the chance to expand the universe and create vehicles that would not be seen in the movie. One of those was a 3 wheeled out runner we designed for the leader of the Survivalists, Gibson. Toys R Us had an exclusive Championship Edition of the game that unlocked the out runner as a playable vehicle; this is a marketing piece I created for them.

I also worked with our concept artists, and Disney to create new characters and adapt existing movie characters to our style. One of my favorite quick projects I did was adapted everyone’s favorite plumber Mario to the Tron style. This was promotional material for a presentation to NOA when Battle Grids was included in the Nintendo booth at E3.

Wii Character Design

This is a design I did early in the project when we were exploring character style for the Wii. I later developed the initial sketch into this finished marketing ‘sizzle’ piece to show the style of our unique Wii game. In the gallery you will see my initial sketch and tonal, clean line work from Sketchbook Pro, blocked in colors and Final illustration from Photoshop. I also created a helmeted version to fit the movie franchise and a banner version for advertising.
